What counter and backsplash to choose to update ‘aughts’ kitchen?

Would like clean, white counter and backsplash to brighten and contemporize kitchen. Need to extend island as well. Cupboards will stay. Have already updated adjoining dining fixtures to bubble lamps. And removed pendant lights.

Should it be solid backsplash like Dekton or square white tiles in running bond or, or, or. Love some help!

the end for the refurb? We just finished our kitchen and loved the white tiles
